What Does Haven Look Like This Summer?
After over two years of adjusted summer programming here at Haven, we are thrilled to finally be offering a traditional summer season this year! With just a few extra safety precautions to keep our community safe and healthy, we are returning to our pre-pandemic programming and couldn’t be happier.
Perhaps the most exciting news: our Summer Mainstage Musical is BACK! We have been unable to offer our highest level, audition-only programming since 2019, but this summer, 33 incredibly talented teens will take the stage in Matilda the Musical! All South Bay Matilda the Musical rehearsals will be in-person, indoors and outdoors, and our live performances will be full-capacity at our South Bay facilities auditorium.
Summer Theatre Camps are also back in full force, along with our summer camp counselor program, which was paused back in 2020. With 4 wonderful camp programs, our facilities will be bustling with in-person rehearsal and performances all summer long! Our South Bay and Pico Union students will all be enjoying their instruction and performances in-person, indoors and outdoors.
We are also pleased (and a little surprised!) to announce that our hART of the City summer camps – part of our LA City Programming – have tripled in size this summer! We have partnered with 3 other sites to bring quality arts education to students in under-resourced communities . Our hART of the City Summer camps and performances will be in-person, and we are delighted that the reach of our LA City Programming is expanding.
Haven Academy still requires full vaccination for its staff and instructors. This means that ALL adults interacting with our students - Haven instructors, staff, and tech contractors - will be fully vaccinated and boosted.
Should a student, staff member, or instructor fall ill, Haven will (at minimum) be following LA County’s guidelines for quarantine timelines after an exposure or positive test. However, we may take additional precautions to protect our in-person programming, especially as performances approach. All students staff and instructors are required to contact our offices for specific instructions BEFORE returning to rehearsal if they or someone in their household is ill, exposed, or tests positive.
Once again, our South Bay Mainstage and LA City Programming productions will be live and in-person. All of our cast members will be performing mask-free. As always, we are prepared to make adjustments to our policies as our Summer show dates draw closer, should the need arise.
We understand that parents in particular are still making difficult choices as they balance their child’s safety and emotional wellbeing. We are here to partner with our community in providing an in-person Haven experience in the safest way possible. We are thrilled to offer a place for our students to learn, grow, and be together with their theatre family!
